Ulster University is a multi-campus university founded in 1845. The heritage and success of the university has since spread far beyond its Northern Ireland roots, to other sites in London and Birmingham.
In 2015 Ulster University underwent a complete transformation, rebranding and repositioning itself for the modern world. In partnership with their development provider, QA Higher Education, we were approached to design and build a new information-rich website for their London and Birmingham campus course offering – all within a short lead time.
Simple user-experience, the ability to expand rapidly and student acquisition – these were the key objectives for this site. As with any development project we used our user-centric design process to ensure the layouts were highly focused from their inception. In line with this, we did some extensive persona research to discover the precise needs of each user group. This translated into a lead-focused user interface that puts the right information first.
The prestige of the new Ulster University meant we focused on realistic human photography, clean space and simplistic layouts to make sure the user experience was uncluttered and logical.
Technically, the build was complex, as we needed the customised CMS to easily manage multiple courses, sync-up with testimonials and enable our client’s in-house teams to quickly migrate content with ease. We also integrated enquiry forms utilizing Gekko, Ulster’s preferred CRM system, meaning their entire marketing and lead generation processes seamlessly integrated with the new more engaging website.
