I have it on good authority that I am a great note-taker. I’ve been told – not just by my Mum.
At the tree, the most important thing about attending a meeting is making sure you capture the detail. Being the person that remembers everything about a conversation is a great thing! And today it’s easier than ever before, with loyal app mates that have your back when your memory mates fail you.
Here are some of our top picks from the office.
This is the Goldilocks note taking app. It’s a little less robust than something like Evernote, but a bit more advanced than your PC’s desktop sticky note app.
Google Keep is a free note taking app that lets you capture notes, lists, photos and audio, and it’s built right into Google’s infrastructure - meaning you can do things like copy emails directly from your Gmail account into Google Keep. Sadly, for the techy types, there’s no Google Drive integration… yet!
Unique feature: A fantastic image to text scanner, so if you need to scan details from a pdf resource or a cutting, Google Keep is a great place to start.
You can’t beat simplicity. Sometimes, all you want from your note taking app is the ability write simple, plain text, and that’s what Simplenote provides. It’s free, fast and makes it easy to organise your notes through a surprisingly sophisticated tagging and search functionality.
Unique feature: The lack of features! You can’t record audio and you can’t take photos. This is a great feature. It means that entry time to actual note taking is reduced because you don’t need to navigate complicated, clunky menus.
This is the companion app to the successful DEVONthink for Mac. While you can write and edit notes through this app, this is a fantastic tool for note organisation. If you’re the sort of person who needs to write multiple notes a day, every day, you might soon find that the sorts of flat filing systems in most note taking apps is a little bit lacking.
Here, you can organise your note database and take it on the go. With a great smart PDF thumbnail viewer, you will be able to sort through your documents without having to open them – a real time-saver!
Unique feature: You can sync your files directly to a local network via Dropbox. With strong encryption, you can be sure your data is safe.
This is the note taking app for the pen devotee. If you’re a writer, you’ll probably keep at least one ink pen with you at all times – there’s just something really pleasurable about putting pen to paper. Well, Penultimate is the next best thing.
As an iPad exclusive app, this is natural handwriting on a platform that suits it. Jot down your notes on personalised paper styles and use the Jot Script Evernote Edition, the first true precision point stylus.
Unique feature: The handwritten notes you make in Penultimate sync straight over to Evernote so you can keep handwritten and typed notes in one single place.
