Since the tree began, we’ve always wanted to support the community and give something back. That’s why we are proud to have supported North West Kent Volunteering Service over the last few months. Our objective was to offer North West Kent Volunteering Service with the creation of a modern and engaging website to support the incredible work they do.
North West Kent Volunteer Centre is an independent charity that gives information, advice and support to anyone who wants to volunteer. Their work enhances both volunteers’ and clients’ lives, building a closer, more resilient community together.
Recent statistics show that 75% of older people in the UK are lonely, and loneliness can have a huge impact of a person’s wellbeing. And it’s not just emotional wellbeing that is affected. Age UK found that loneliness can be as harmful to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Another statistic from Age UK said that 49% of people aged 65 and over in the UK say that TV or pets are their main form of company.
Loneliness amongst older people is something North West Kent Volunteer Centre is keen to tackle with their Befriending Service. The Befriending Service gives older people weekly visits from a volunteer Befriender.
To help as many as possible get involved North West Kent Volunteer Centre wanted to make it much easier for people to access the great information available, enabling volunteers easier ways to connect with those in need.
As a digital marketing agency committed to community engagement, we decided to help North West Kent Volunteer Centre by designing and building a new website as part of our CSR and charity engagement strategy.
Pauline Annetts, CEO at North West Kent Volunteer Centre says “we’ve had an increase in queries from people wanting to volunteer their time and our old website wasn’t built in a way that made it easy for people to put across their information.
So, when the tree offered to design and build us a new website pro bono, we jumped at the chance”.
Pauline continues “we wanted the tree to modernise the website without alienating users, by making it much easier for people to access information, enabling volunteer’s easier ways to connect with those in need.”
By allowing people contact with others, transport and ability to enjoy hobbies North West Kent Volunteer Centre is encouraging and prolonging independent living for older people.
Personally, I’m incredibly proud of what the team have delivered. Finally, North West Kent Volunteering Service have a site that truly reflects the wonderful work they do (View Site). The platform now makes it easier for Volunteers to get in touch and take part in tritely life changing initiatives.
