Facebook Live Announce New Video Features

Facebook have announced a series of new features for its live video streaming platform, Facebook Live.

The most notable update is the ability for businesses and brands using Facebook Pages, to broadcast live videos from a web browser.

Facebook said in a blog post that “a variety of broadcast types — like daily vlogs — benefit from an easy, stable camera setup, and bringing Live to laptops and desktops will make this style of broadcasting easier.”

The social network is also rolling out a ‘Live Contributor’ option to its Pages. Facebook Page admins will be able to designate a ‘Live Contributor’ role to individuals, allowing them broadcast a Live Video on behalf of a Page. Facebook claims the feature is ideal for media industry professionals such as journalists looking to cover breaking news and events.

In addition, pages with 5,000 followers or more will be able to access a set of “lightweight insights” for Live and regular videos. These metrics will roll out on Facebook’s ‘Mention’s app and will include information such as total minutes viewed, total number of views, and total engagement.

Users will also be able to see a collection of insights over 7, 30, and 60 day periods. This will include the total number of video posts, engagement, total views and minutes viewed, and total number of Profile followers.

Others features that have been introduced by Facebook include Live Comment Pinning, allowing pages to pin relevant comments at the bottom of a live stream. A Video Permalink for Pages to direct users to a Page’s video content, and Crossposting Previously Live Videos to help publishers reach audiences across different Pages.
